Structural components of nucleic acids
- Nucleic acids are made up of repeating units of nucleotides joined together by phosphodiester bonds.
- Nucleotides are the phosphoric esters of nucleosides which are made up of pentose sugar and nitrogenous bases joined by N-glycosidic linkage.
- The nitrogenous bases are derivatives of two parent compounds, pyrimidine and purine.
